Hard Hand Blackjack Strategy

Blackjack strategy is all about winning. Nobody plays with strategy unless they are looking to win. Part of blackjack strategy is understanding how to play different hands. In blackjack there are hard hands and there are soft hands. A soft hand is a hand that includes an ace when it can be played as either a one or an eleven. Hard hands do not contain an ace that can be played either way.
When playing hard hands a person has a little less lead way on making a mistake. The strategy for hard hands starts with the first two cards dealt. The player should look at their total and then play as follows:
If the total is eight or less then hit. This is because nothing that the dealer with deal will send the player over 21.
If the total is nine and the dealer’s up card is a 3,4,5 or 6 then the player should double down. If the dealer’s up card is anything different then hit.
If the total is ten and the dealer has a 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 or 9 then the player should double down. If the dealer has anything else they should hit.
If the total is eleven and the dealer has a 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 or 10 then double down. If the dealer has an up card that is an ace then the player should hit.
If the total is twelve and the dealer has a 2 or 3 then the player should hit. If the dealer has a 4,5 or then the player should stand.
If the total is thirteen through sixteen and the dealer has a 2,3,4,5 or 6 then stand. If the dealer has anything else, hit.
If the total is seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty or twenty-one then stand regardless of what the dealer has.
By following this basic strategy a player is putting the odds in his favor. This is of the most basic of strategy, though. Therefore while it is easy to memorize and implement, it does not offer the best odds.
